A Catholic school in Kansas is struggling to reverse its decision not to sign up a child with a married identical-sex mother and father.

More than 1,2 hundred humans have signed a petition presented to the institution, St. Ann Catholic School in Prairie Village, urging administrators to permit the child into kindergarten at the school, which serves students via 8th grade. Over a 3rd of the folks who had signed via Friday had been parish participants or had kids enrolled inside the college; others belonged to distinctive parishes.

The controversy in Prairie Village, a city of about 21,000 people in the Kansas City metropolitan area, has highlighted how Catholic institutions commonly comply with their dioceses’ regulations, even if they conflict with the law.

The Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that the Constitution guarantees a proper same-intercourse marriage, and a few national and neighborhood legal guidelines bar discrimination by sexual orientation or gender identification. However, nonsecular institutions are exempt from the ones protections.
Joe Skates, 46, who lives in Prairie Village and whose baby attends a specific Catholic college, was one of the individuals who signed. On Friday, he said that he became motivated to signal it because of what he called the hypocrisy of Catholic institutions that take motion in opposition to homosexual mothers and fathers even as the religious hierarchy has included and promoted monks who have abused children.
